No Time - A poem

After so many reviews recently, I have really enjoyed doing some creative writing. I wrote this poem quite quickly, but it really strikes a chord with me at the moment. It's not children's writing this time, but it's about children, and babies, and even when your life feels like it's on a permanent fast-forward, a reminder to stop and appreciate the smaller things.

No Time

The up, the down,
the trips to town,
the climb, the jump,
the run, the bump.
The wake up, the sleep,
the teaching to count sheep,
the kisses, the cuddles,
the late night snuggles.
The falling, the catching,
the plasters, the patching,
the cries, the shout,
the lasting pout.
The days they fly,
the biscuits go dry,
the tea goes cold,
the washing doesn’t fold.
There’s no time to sit,
no time to get fit,
no time for a shower,
or work, or power.
But the smiles they last,
they’re stuck down fast,
the twinkle in the eye,
the baking the pie.
Open your eyes,
See the love, the prize,
Stop and smile,
Cherish them for a while.
